'French Life Through a Lens... with Euroculture'

Nord Pas-de-Calais - Bethune/Lens Countryside

Best of Both Worlds - Town and Country in Northern France

This residential centre is set in some beautiful countryside close to the former Mining city of Lens. Whilst the surrounding parkland and forest provides groups with the most tranquil and secluded environment for their stay, the nearby motorway provides easy access to the Channel Ports of Calais and Dunkirk as well as a plethora of great activities for schools to enjoy throughout the region.

Lens saw its last mine close in 1986, but the city's fortunes are reviving; it hosted four matches at the 2016 UEFA European Football Championships and since 2012 it has boasted a unique outpost of Paris's Louvre Museum. Louvre-Lens affords visitors the chance to view an ever-changing selection of masterpieces and temporary exhibits outside the limitations of the original Parisian institution's physical and organisational structure.

The towns of Arras, Saint-Omer, Bethune and the major city of Lille offer groups a host of attractions within a close radius, whilst the seaside towns of Boulogne and Le Touquet can also be easily reached. Many schools will find the location particularly enticing with the ability to visit important sites from both World Wars. There are numerous Memorials and Cemeteries from the Great War in the surrounding area, including the French National Cemetery Notre-Dame de Lorette, the beautiful Commonwealth 'Cabaret Rouge' Cemetery and the impressive Canadian Monument at Vimy Ridge all in very close proximity. Wellington Quarry in Arras had a role in two play in both conflicts, whilst La Coupole and the Blockhaus d'Eperlecques are permanent reminders of the legacy of the Second World War in this region.
