'A School Trip to Remember... with Euroculture'

Picardy - Somme - Amiens

The capital city of the Somme region, with the river of the same name flowing through its heart, Amiens is one of Northern France's finest towns. Its most striking feature is the massive 13th Century Notre Dame Cathedral, reaching well over 100 metres into the Picardy sky. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is the largest Gothic church to be built in France and claims that it would fit the famous Parisian version inside it - twice! Visitors can admire the beautifully lit frontage by night or climb the 307 steps to survey the city and its maze of narrow streets and canals from above.

After taking in the view from the dizzying heights, we recommend taking it all in from a different angle - on a boat trip through the Saint-Leu district. This is the historic heart of Amiens, once home to the craftsmen, tradesman and merchants of the Medieval town - and now to a wealth of boutiques, antique shops, booksellers, restaurants and bars. During the month of December the whole city becomes a Winter Wonderland as the city hosts one of the largest Christmas Markets in Northern France - well worth a visit!

With excellent transport links with direct Motorway routes to the Channel Ports, all the major towns in the region are within easy reach and day trips to Paris or Disneyland Paris are also possible. It goes without saying, Amiens is also an ideal base for touring the World War One battlefields of the Somme.
