Travel by Executive Coach and Eurotunnel or Ferry to France. Your journey to Normandy will break at Boulogne where you will visit a Chocolate factory. After discovering the world of the Chocolatier, you will continue on the motorway to arrive at your Normandy residential centre to check-in in time for dinner.
After breakfast you will board your coach with a packed meal for a full day excursion. You first stop will be the city of Caen, the capital of Upper Normandy, where William the Conqueror built his stronghold castle in 1060. The educational Caen Peace Memorial Museum is a must-see attraction exploring the impact of war.
You will spend the afternoon exploring Normandy’s famous D-Day Landing Beaches of WW2. There are tanks, batteries and memorials scattered all over the area, and you will be able to choose a selection of them. Highlights include the Juno Beach Centre, the 360° Cinema at Arromanches, the Musée de Débarquement, the Pegasus Memorial and the Battle of Normandy Memorial Museum – but this is by no means an exhaustive list.
After breakfast, your coach will take you to visit the historic town of Bayeux and see its renowned Tapestry and Visitor Centre. In the early afternoon, you will visit the British military cemetery in Bayeux.
After visiting the military cemetery, you will travel to Grandcamp-Maisy to visit the Maisy Battery one of the largest German defensive positions on the Normandy beaches. Completely buried at the end of the war, the site was rediscovered in 2006 and since this time the network of bunkers, trenches and tunnels has been restored providing an incredible insight into the life of a German solider at this time.
After breakfast, you will board your coach with a packed meal for the journey home and, if time allows, we can also schedule a brief shopping trip at a French Hypermarket on route before you head back across the Channel to arrive back at school later in the evening.
